Tips for Preventing Sewer / Stormwater Pipe Blockages & Backups

  • Never pour grease or oil down your drains
  • Scrape food off plates and into the trash rather than down garbage disposals
  • Do not throw household items or yard waste into manholes or storm grates
  • Do not use products labeled as "flushable" wipes - they do not significantly disintegrate and can lead to costly cleanings and/or repairs

Tips for Protecting Our Waterways

  • Do not sweep/blow grass clipping into the street or down storm drains
  • Avoid overuse of fertilizers and pesticides
  • Put litter in its place
  • Properly dispose of animal waste
  • Use dry clean-up methods (broom and dustpan or absorbent material) for spills of chemicals and fuels, do NOT hose the spilled material down a drain
