Electric Distribution
The Bluffton Electric Distribution Department distributes electricity to Bluffton residents and much of Wells County through its eleven transformers and five different substations.
Tree Limbs or Branches on Wires
- If tree limbs or branches interfere with any secondary service (wires that run from a utility pole to your house), removal is the property owner's responsibility. Email the Utility Office or call 824-2500 to schedule temporary electric service while removal of the tree or limbs is performed.
- If trees or limbs have fallen directly into the City right-of-way, or have fallen on power lines and are interfering with primary voltage lines (wires that run from pole to pole), the City will arrange for their removal. Email the Utility Office or call 824-2500 to report trees in power lines.
Energy Saving Tips
- Switching old bulbs to Light Emitting Diode (LED) Energy Star Rated bulbs in just five of a home's most used fixtures can save owners up to $75 a year and last over twenty times longer than a traditional incandescent light!
- Clean or replace furnace or heat pump filters monthly
- Seal gaps and cracks on the inside and outside of buildings to avoid drafts
- Seek the "Star" - home electronics and appliances with the Energy Star symbol save at least 20 percent in energy costs over regular ones
- Setting a thermostat back seven to ten degrees from its current, normal setting during the day or when residents are away can cut heating/cooling bills by 10 percent
- Have a professional clean and check a home's heating and cooling system every season to keep it operating efficiently
