mayor of bluffton indianaJohn Whicker is a native of Danville, IN in Hendricks County where he grew up on a dairy farm. He graduated from Purdue University and served two years in the army.

John worked in management for Moorman Manufacturing Company, moving here in 1976. After 25 years John retired from Moorman Manufacturing as General Manager of Bluffton Operations. He then became President of Bi-County Services where he served for 16 years. During this time John also owned and operated Thumbs-Up Glove & Safety for 16 years. Over the past few years John has worked part time in the accounting department at Bi-County Services.

John served 4 years on the Bluffton Common Council and has also been active in Bluffton Rotary Club and helping with the development of Kehoe Park, Wells County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Wells County, Wells County Foundation, Wells County YMCA, Wells County Council on Aging, the Wells County Leadership Academy, Wells County Trails, Bluffton­Harrison Middle School Building Corporation, Bluffton High School ICE Advisory Committee and the Wells County Dream Team. He was instrumental in the fundraising and development of Whicker Field and Whicker Park Inclusive Playground, home of the Dream Team. He is also active in the Bluffton First Presbyterian church where he has served as an elder and helps with Kate’s Kitchen.

John was recipient of the Wells County Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” in 2007 and was named the Indiana Parks and Recreation Elected Official of the Year in 2017.

John’s wife Jolin is also a native of Danville, IN. John and Jolin have been married for 55 years. Jolin is a retired schoolteacher. She taught at Lancaster Central Elementary school for 33 years. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
